Deciding what to wear for photo sessions, especially when trying to choose many outfits at once can become overwhelming. Therefore, I always recommend starting small. Begin with one color and/or pattern and build the rest of the family clothing from there.  Avoid dressing the whole family in patterns. For example, choose one item, a dress or shirt for instance, with a pattern containing the colors you love. Then, choose colors from that item that coordinate and complement each other.

I always recommend selecting lighter tones and more muted shades. The camera loves shades of soft pink and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light neutrals like heather gray, creams, leather brown, navy, and white. Try to avoid ultra-bright neon colors. They don’t tend to photograph well and can cast colors onto the skin.

Be comfortable. Make sure that everyone’s clothing fits properly and is weather appropriate. If you’re hot or cold during your session, it’s less likely that you’ll appear happy and relaxed in your photos. This is especially true for children.
